Kigo Beaded Men's Swim Shorts

Intricate blue beadwork and embroidery transform Kigo from a classic swim short into something closer to wearable art.

Set against a blue-and-white tile-inspired print, each pair is finished by hand with beads and embroidery that catch the light without overwhelming the design. Lightweight premium swim fabric and an easy silhouette keep Kigo comfortable in and out of the water.

The Hands Behind It

Kigo’s story began in Cartagena, Colombia, when my husband, David, and I met Patricia and saw her extraordinary beadwork for the first time.

While I immediately started imagining what her artistry could become for Sandy Bottom, David had a different question:

“Why do you get all the beautiful pieces?”

To him, Patricia’s beadwork looked more like jewellery than decoration — something to collect, treasure and wear.

So Patricia made him a pair of swim shorts.

One became two, and over the years she has created ten different designs exclusively for David. For almost two years, I tried to convince him to let me share a few of them with Sandy Bottom.

Eventually, he said yes.

Kigo is only the second design from his private collection he has agreed to share.

Every pair is hand-embroidered and hand-beaded by Patricia and her team of women artisans in Cartagena, Colombia.

Why It’s Priced This Way

Kigo’s price reflects the skilled handwork, intricate embroidery and beadwork, premium swim fabric and time required to create every pair.

Look closely and you’ll see what makes them different. The embellishment isn’t simply added to the fabric.  It follows and builds on the print, with individual beads and embroidered details turning the pattern into something dimensional.

This is slow, detailed work done by skilled hands, not a process designed for mass production.

Luxury shouldn’t simply mean an expensive label. It should tell you something about how a piece was made and who made it.

Limited Production

There are ten designs in David’s private collection.

So far, my husband has agreed to share two.

Kigo is produced in a small, intentionally limited run and will not become a permanent Sandy Bottom style.

Once this edition is gone, it belongs back to David.

To keep your Sandy Bottom piece looking its best:

• Hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent after wear.
• Avoid rough surfaces that may snag or damage the fabric.
• Lay flat to dry in the shade. Do not tumble dry.
• Take care with sunscreen, oils and lotions, as they may stain or discolour delicate fabrics.
• Never bleach, iron or dry clean.

A little extra care will keep your swimwear beautiful wear after wear.
